Five are the most commonly traded mango varieties: Tommy Atkins, Hadens, Kents, Keitts and Ataulfos. Tommys, Hadens and Ataulfos are the early varieties and Kents and Keitts are the late varieties. Tommys and Hadens are known as red varieties and Kents and Keitts as green varieties.
Ataulfo: Also, known as the yellow variety, Ataulfo receives different names in the market such as Honey Manila or Manila. The Ataulfo variety is golden when ripe. This lush fruit is rich, flavorful, fiber-less, with smooth texture, and has a smaller seed than the red and green mangos.
Tommy Atkins and Hadens: Also, known as red mango varieties, these are yellow and red when ripe. Tommys have the highest fiber content among mangos and are red and yellow when ripe. Ripe Hadens have a prevalent yellow in the outside with a hint of red.
Kents & Keitts: Also, known as green mango varieties, are mostly green when ripe with a very small hint of red. Both have the highest sugar content and less fiber of all the varieties. Kents are preferred in Japan and France, and are known to be the king of mangos.
