Since its foundation, Diazteca has kept sustainability at the forefront of its goals. Mexico’s state of the art fleets, traditionally manned by fishermen who take an active role in caring for their precious, pristine waters, has been joined by aquaculturists equally committed to their land and seas.

A recent Sustainability Review praises the Gulf of Mexico shrimp fishery for its emphasis on conservancy through voluntary closures, bycatch-management systems such as turtle-excluder devices (TEDs) and support of sea-turtle-recovery programs and other ecological measures.

In the Sea of Cortez, Diazteca has learned valuable lessons from other countries, Diazteca aquaculture activities are committed to enhancing rather than destroying habitat.

After instituting stringent protective measures for mangroves in the Gulf, the Mexican government has from the start worked closely with Diazteca along the Sea of Cortez, where most of our farming is carried out on natural salt flats.

George Chamberlain, president of the Global Aquacultural Alliance considers that “shrimp farming and its attendant irrigation systems, has actually helped turn patched areas of the Sonoran and Sinaloan deserts into lush, productive agricultural areas, generating both food and jobs for the Mexican economy”

Diazteca raises shrimp only through low-density producing methods, avoiding antibiotics or chemicals for controlling diseases such as in high-density ponds.

Diazteca is unconditionally committed to the sustainability of our environment, by taking an active role in protecting the Sea of Cortez mangroves, producing in chemical free farms, and trawling wild shrimp through ecological measures.
